Correction

I made a mistake in my first post that I have just become aware of. I initially believed that Prep was based on the life of the author, Curtis Sittenfeld. The story is so detailed that it is easy to imagine it being a person's life. The story is NOT, however, based on Sittenfeld's life. While she did attend a New England preparatory school, Lee does not represent her.

In an interview with a reporter, Sittenfeld remarked that she was flattered that people believed her story to be true. It takes true literary talent to make a fiction work seem as though it is nonfiction. She said some of the events may have been inspired by observations and occurrences that she witnessed throughout her life.

I am truly surprised that the story is pure fiction. Lee seems so real and her character has depth that I've never seen with another character. I can understand her thinking process and how she views the world. If someone were to ask me, I may even be able to predict Lee's reaction. This may be because I share many opinions with Lee. She notices things that most be people turn a blind eye to. Obviously, Sittenfeld must notice these things in order for her to write about them. This leads me to my next thought...

I believe my earlier assumptions that this novel was based on Sittenfeld's life is a testament to her unique talent. She is a master of fiction. I would love to meet this woman. If her character and I share so much in common, then we may as well. I feel as though I could meet Sittenfeld and already have an idea of how she thinks. If you happen to be reading this, although I have no idea why you would, I would love to talk to you!

Two claps for Curtis!
